This information brought me to tears.
For the first time, I felt truly seen. This company understands the harm that I and over 30% of Americans face every single day. And they are not ignoring it. They are taking action to change it.
I am beyond grateful. After years of suffering, this feels like validation. It feels like support. It feels like hope.
Right now, because of widespread fragrance use, I cannot safely access something as essential as a hospital or even an ambulance. No one should be denied care because the air itself is making them sick.
From Cole & Van Note
"Synthetic Fragrance is Dangerous
Everyone deserves equal access to public accommodations, clean air and the right to work, shop and dine out without being harmed by synthetic fragrance. 34.7% of Americans report immediate adverse health effects when exposed to synthetic fragrance. And yet, businesses nationwide permit fragranced environments which fill the air with harmful compounds, triggering acute and chronic injuries.
If you have experienced fragranced businesses or workplaces—or cannot visit them because of fragrance use there, CALL US. We’re here to help whether your chemical sensitivity disables you, or you just want to see a change. We take these issues and your health seriously, and are committed to putting an end to the proliferation of dangerous fragrance compounds.
Fragrance and chemical sensitivity, by the numbers
34.7% of Americans report immediate adverse health effects from synthetic fragrance and this number is growing.
26.0% of adults have asthma, and 57.8% of them experience worsened symptoms from fragrance exposure.
21.2% of adults live with chemical sensitivity or Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, and 81.3% of them are harmed by fragrance.
4.5% of the population is affected by Autism/ASDs, with a majority also reporting chemical and fragrance sensitivities.
100% of people know someone affected—impacting social lives, workplaces, and access to public spaces."
After I submitted my experiences, this is the response I received:
"Thank you for submitting your experiences surrounding businesses that employ fragrance. Once we collect everyone’s responses, we will reach out to discuss next steps. We have received interest in filing lawsuits from scores of people; we cannot file everyone’s case at once.
Your stories and experiences are important. What’s more important going forward, however, is what we do about them. The fragrance industry is a multibillion dollar worldwide enterprise; the industry will not stop marketing its toxins to businesses unless we force it. We can do that—one case at a time. So, if you are interested in being part of this campaign to eradicate fragrance use, tell us now. Once we finish the necessary documents, we can send you an agreement authorizing us to file them. For nearly 35 years, our firm has worked on a “contingency fee” basis for people seeking to protect their civil rights—meaning we do not recover any fees/costs unless we win. If we do, then the other side pays.
Preparing for litigation of this significance takes time. So, for now, settle in. Also, please stay informed by visiting our website at https://colevannote.com/fragrance/. Finally, spread the word that we are serious about making a difference. People suffering from chemical sensitivity need to know change is possible.
Thanks for partnering with us. We’ll be in touch."
My message to you.
Your voice matters.
Our stories matter.
And together, we can create change.
